BUIES CREEK – Brandon Peskin’s 36-yard field goal with two seconds on the clock lifted No. 13 Richmond over Campbell 27-24 to remain unbeaten in CAA play on Saturday at Barker-Lane Stadium.
Campbell (3-7, 1-5 CAA) led 24-17 with 9:59 to play with Sincere Brown’s 14-yard TD catch before Richmond (8-2, 6-0 CAA) answered with a 12-play, 76-yard scoring drive, tying the game with Ja’Vion Griffin’s nine-yard touchdown catch from Camden Coleman.
Two possessions later, Campbell’s Brandon Guzman intercepted a Coleman pass, helping the Camels drive to the Spider 35 before turning the ball over on downs with 1:56 remaining in regulation.
Richmond then chipped away 45 yards on 11 plays, with Coleman completing 4-of-5 passes and rushing four times for 27 yards on the drive to set up Peskin’s go-ahead field goal.
Coleman finished the night with 252 passing yards on 19-of-33 passing with two touchdowns and an interception while running for 55 yards on 12 carries. Landon Ellis grabbed seven passes for 101 yards, while Nick DeGennaro totaled 61 yards on four catches with a TD. Zach Palmer-Smith added 53 yards rushing on 20 attempts with a touchdown.
Matthew Traynor registered a game-high 12 tackles, including 2.0 stops for loss with an interception for the Spiders on the defensive side of the ball, while Jabril Hayes added five tackles with another pick.
Mike Chandler II, meanwhile, rushed for a season-high 121 yards and a touchdown, also completing 12-of-24 passes for 128 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.
Brown tallied seven catches for 62 yards, including the fourth quarter touchdown, his 11th of the season to set a Campbell single season record. Randall King added four catches for 53 yards to go with a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the second quarter. The kickoff return TD marked Campbell’s first since 2018 (Aaron Blockmon at Presbyterian, 11/10/18).
JJ Cowan also rushed for 82 yards on 12 carries, helping Campbell post a season-high 273 yards on the ground.
Cornelius Davis paced Campbell with nine tackles, while Jalen Brooks made eight stops with a sack.
Next up, Campbell heads to Delaware for its final road trip of the 2024 season, on November 16 (1:00 p.m.) before finishing out the campaign at home on November 23 against Towson (2:00 p.m.).
