No Charges In School Bus Accident

Pine Level Police Chief Keith Sparks says no charges will be filed against the driver of a car that struck a Johnston County school bus on Wednesday.

Chief Sparks said the bus and car were attempting to pass each other on Peedin Avenue between cars that had been legally parked on both sides of the street. 

Bus-Accident-Pine-Level-2Richard Gardner, 62, of Selma struck one of the parked cars, forcing his vehicle to overturn on its side and slide into the side of the bus as it passed.  Gardner did not sustain serious injuries but had to be extricated from his overturned vehicle.

The driver of the bus, Ester Hales, 45,of Kenly and one child on board were not hurt.

Bus number 447 was assigned to North Johnston Middle and North Johnston High School. Damage to the bus was minimal.  Photos by JoCoFire.com
