There was a buzz of excitement at Four Oaks Elementary where 17 fourth and fifth grade students competed in the school’s spelling bee.
Throughout 10 rounds, students were challenged with a variety of words, while parents and fellow students provided heartfelt support with intense silence, broken with clapping and cheering at appropriate times.
Two 5th graders, Kaylee Johnson and Jackson Norris, were the final two participants. Jackson correctly spelled “oppress “and “caper” to be named the school’s spelling bee champion.
“I was proud of all the spellers who participated in today’s event,” said Four Oaks Elementary Principal Kathy Parrish. “Thank you to the teachers and parents who practiced with their students.”
