North Johnston Senior Earns Barton College Scholarship

Hayes-Barton-College-Logo-FISamantha Lauren Johnson of Selma, a senior at North Johnston High School, is the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship at Barton College. The renewable scholarship will cover $34,000 of tuition, divided into increments of $8,500 per year for four years.

Ms. Johnson is the daughter of Carol and Sammy Johnson Jr. of Selma. She will enter Barton College in the fall 2016 semester and plans to major in nursing.

Presidential Scholarships are awarded to entering freshmen who have worked hard to prepare for the rigors of college. Students who are awarded this scholarship have performed exceedingly well in high school and on the SAT or ACT. Criteria for this award includes a minimum 2.5 GPA, a minimum SAT score of 1050 or a minimum ACT score of 22. Recipients must also rank within the top 45% of their high school classes. Through this award, Barton College applauds and rewards the student’s academic excellence. A 2.5 GPA must be maintained to retain the scholarship four years. In addition to the required renewal GPA, students must maintain satisfactory academic progress, as outlined in the college catalog and be enrolled continuously on a full-time basis.
