North Johnston Varsity, JV Cheerleaders Win In CANAM

The North Johnston High varsity cheerleading squad brought home a fourth place trophy in the small varsity non-tumble category at the Cheer Ltd. The North Johnston High junior varsity and varsity cheerleading squads brought home a first and fourth place trophy after competing in the Cheer Ltd. Nationals at Canadian-American (CANAM) in Myrtle Beach.

The varsity cheerleading squad brought home a fourth place trophy in the small varsity non-tumble category. The junior varsity cheerleading squad brought home a first place trophy in the small junior varsity non-tumble category as well as national champion jackets.

“The teams showcased their amazing skills and talent representing North Johnston High and made our school very proud,” said cheerleading coach Alison Argott. “The girls began working on their routines beginning last August and worked until March 15, before the national competition.”

Teams must win a bid in order to be able to compete at the national CANAM competition. The North Johnston High teams got their bid at a pre-states competition in October. At the event, teams were judged on voice projection, dance, motions, jumps, tosses, students, and pyramids, according to Argott.
