Alma Whaley Dixon, 95, of Smithfield, NC, passed quietly away surrounded by her loved ones on Tuesday night, October 22, 2024.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 25 at 2:00pm at Dunn Funeral Home, Inc. of Benson. Visitation will take place prior to the funeral at 1:00pm. Burial will be at Hills of the Neuse Cemetery in Smithfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Eliza Jane Whaley; her husband, Kenneth Dixon; daughters, Brenda and Ann Marie; a son, Melvin; six brothers and two sisters; and three son-in-laws, Dee Lloyd Radford, Danny Baker, and Jerry Baker.
Alma is survived by her daughters, Jannie Radford of Wilson Mills, Kay Baker and Dorothy Baker of Four Oaks; sons, K B Dixon (Susan) of Wilson Mills, and Bobby Dixon of the home; sixteen grandchildren, thirty-six great grandchildren, and seven great great grandchildren; a sister, Patsy Whaley of Richland; and brothers, Earl Whaley (Teresa) of Smithfield and Elmer Whaley (Kathy) of Durham.
Alma was a humble woman that loved her family unselfishly, providing for them and their needs before her own. She especially loved to cook for them and anyone that would sit at her table. She had a “green thumb” and loved working in her yard and garden, tending her flowers. She did public work until she was 75 years old and enjoyed it immensely.
