Smithfield – Barbara Janet Kornegay Creech, age 90, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, July 21, 2023, in Smithfield Manor Nursing & Rehab. Born, June 4, 1933, in Johnston County she was a daughter of the late James Elbert Kornegay and Luna Victoria Kornegay. She is preceded in death by her husband of forty-seven years Mr. Joseph Roy Creech, son Joseph Roy Creech Jr, and six siblings, including her fraternal twin sister, Nancy Thompson.
Barbara was the oldest living member of Steven’s Chapel Baptist Church. She greatly enjoyed being involved in all the church’s ministries and activities. Barbara raised her family on the family farm, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed listening to gospel music and she loved animals of all kinds, especially kitty cats. Barbara was a loving Christian woman and she will be missed by all her family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at Steven’s Chapel Baptist Church in Smithfield with Rev. Marvin Ownley and Rev. Vernon Braswell officiating. The burial will follow in the Thompson Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service beginning at 2:00 p.m.
She is survived by her sons; Stephen Creech (Miriam) of Zebulon, Lee Creech (Belinda) of Smithfield, Mike Creech (Vickie) of Smithfield, daughter, Kathy Hostettler (Dyke) of Zebulon, eleven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
