Barbara Sands Rockwell

Barbara Sands Rockwell, age 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield.

Born on September 27, 1935, in England, she was the daughter of the late Gerald and Molly Horton. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, George Rockwell; her daughter, Debbie Sands; her great-grandson, Jason Walch, Jr.; and her daughter-in-law, Debra Sands.

Barbara was deeply proud of her English heritage. She was formerly a resident of Monroe, New York, before retiring to River Bend in New Bern, North Carolina, where she made her home for over 30 years. During her time in New Bern, she worked as an Avon representative and formed many lasting friendships.

She had a love for reading and was especially known for the beautiful flowers she cultivated in her yard. Barbara also had a generous heart and opened her home as a foster mother to many children over the years.

She is survived by her children, Mike Sands (Becky), Sue Favreau (Charlie), Jerry Sands (Lori), and Jodi Sands; as well as nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Barbara will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and the love she shared with her family and all who knew her.

No services will be held for Barbara; however, when she comes to mind, those who wish to honor her memory are warmly invited to raise a proper cup of tea in her honor.
