Mrs. Barbara Thompson Tripp, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at her home.
Mrs. Tripp was born on July 18, 1934 in Brooklyn, NY to the late, Mary Margaret Thompson. Along with her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Sam Tripp, Jr. and her sister, Madeline Jenkins. Mrs. Tripp was a homemaker and an active volunteer in her community.
Barbara’s faith in God and her Church were the foundations for her life. She practiced her faith daily in her actions and demonstrated what it means to love one another. Barbara would help those in need by providing a meal, clothes, and in some instances her home to help someone struggling.
Barbara traveled the world with her husband throughout his military career before finally settling in the Harnett County community and what an impact she made. Barbara was a volunteer at the Harnett County Courthouse and worked at the Harnett County Sheriff’s Department when she became involved with the domestic violence and sexual assault abuse programs. She was impacted by this work so much that she was instrumental in founding SAFE of Harnett County. Free swimming lessons, bible study, and lunch was how Barbara would spend her summers as a way to give back to the children in the community.
Barbara routinely hosted those less fortunate at her home during the holidays and always made sure that everyone had a gift. Visiting locals in their home was her passion until Covid changed our way of life. Barbara won the 2017 Coats Senior Volunteer of the Year and the 2021 President’s Award for the Coats Chamber of Commerce.
