Barry Joseph Smith

Barry Joseph Smith, 63, of New Bern, formerly of Princeton, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026 at Carolina East Medical Center in New Bern. Barry was born in Fairfax County, Virginia on August 20, 1962 to the late Col. James E. “Red” Smith and Norma Wade Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Bettye Joan Smith.

He is survived by brothers, Bradley J. Smith of Raleigh and Bryan J. Smith of Oxford; sisters, Beverly J. Marten of Lebanon, Oregon, and Barbara J. Fogle of New Bern; and several nieces and nephews.
