Birth Date: 10/04/1947
Deceased Date: 12/02/2024
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude that we announce the passing of Betty “Jean” Hamilton Bowden, age 77 of Linden, who went to be with the Lord on December 2nd, 2024. She is a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend with her boundless love and radiant spirit touching the lives of everyone who knew her.
Born on October 4th, 1947, in Dunn, NC, she was the daughter of B.F. Hamilton and Adel Hamilton. She married Thurman Bowden, and together they built a warm and loving home, raising five children. Betty was also the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, whose lives she filled with care, wisdom, and affection. Her love surrounded them all, like an angel guiding them, long before she gained her wings.
As a devoted homemaker, Betty created a sanctuary of love, laughter, and comfort in her home, where all were welcomed, no matter the circumstances. Her kitchen table was always open, and her heart was big enough to embrace not only her own children but also many others whose lives she touched along the way.
A woman of deep faith, Betty was a lifelong member of Hair’s Chapel Free Will Holiness Church in Linden, NC. Her kindness and generosity reflected her strong belief in living out the Gospel every day. Betty’s positive attitude, ever-present smile, and the joy she brought to others were hallmarks of her character. Whether as a mother, grandmother, or friend, she embodied love, patience, and grace.
Betty also nurtured deep and lasting friendships throughout her life. She had a special gift for making others feel valued and loved, always ready with a helping hand or a kind word when someone was in need.
She was preceded in death by her parents, B. F. and Adel Hamilton. Betty is survived by her loving husband, Thurman Bowden; their five children, Debra Shaffer, Brenda Harkenreader, Teresa Bryant, Anthony Bowden, and Ronnie Bowden; her nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; her sisters; a large extended family; and many friends who cherished her dearly.
While we grieve the loss of a remarkable woman, we find comfort in knowing that Betty Jean is now in the presence of her Savior, where there is no more pain or sorrow. Her legacy of faith, love, and joy will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
