    Deceased Date: 01/22/2022

SELMA – Betty Jean (Condee) Cox, age 84, passed away suddenly Saturday, January 22nd, 2022, surrounded by her family at the home of her daughter in Goldsboro, NC. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7.

Betty was born on January 6, 1938, in Portsmouth, VA to the late Charles Ernest & Mary Louise Hale Condee. She graduated from Craddock High School (Portsmouth, VA) in 1956 and soon after met the love of her life and husband of 57 years, Rayford Dee Cox. In 1966, Betty and Dee moved to Selma, NC where they bought a home and raised their 3 children. She was a member of Selma Tabernacle Church of God.

Betty was a devoted wife, mother, granny, aunt, friend, and follower of Jesus Christ. She loved listening to old hymns on her radio as she cooked many meals for her family. No one could make a better banana pudding, chicken pastry, or coconut pie quite like her. She also loved going to Bojangles and eating with her breakfast group every morning. Her family would joke and say she was “Betty the Biscuit Maker.” Betty loved to test her wits with word search puzzles, board games such as Scrabble and Yahtzee, and putting several puzzles together in her spare time. She had an inner strength that kept her going through sickness, heartache, and many other obstacles. One thing you could say about her is that the word “quit” was not in her vocabulary. A term used most to describe her was “hero.”

Surviving are her three children, Donna Cox Bradshaw (Steve) of Goldsboro, Alan Ray Cox (Lisa) of Erwin, and Brian Keith Cox (Mary Beth) of Selma. Four grandchildren, Tabatha Hollingsworth (Hal) of Hope Mills, Michele Best (Kevin) of Goldsboro, Alyssa Fox of Goldsboro, and Miles Bradshaw (Jordan Coor) of Fayetteville. Five great-grandchildren, Jacob Hollingsworth (Hannah) of Hope Mills, Matthew Hollingsworth of Hope Mills, Levi Hollingsworth of Hope Mills, Lainey Best of Goldsboro, and Makinley Best of Goldsboro. One great-great-grandchild, Lucas Hollingsworth of Hope Mills. One sister, Sarah Ferrari (Johnny) of Chesapeake, VA. Special friend, Diane Thorne (Jimmy) of Smithfield, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Rayford Dee Cox, she was preceded in death by: Sisters – Joyce Condee Hewitt, Jackie Condee Hundley. Brothers – Rev. Charles Ernest (Ernie) Condee Jr. and Joseph (Joe) Condee. Granddaughter-in-law, Rev. Felicia Fox.

Funeral Services will be conducted at Parrish Funeral Home (1351 South Pollock Street Selma, NC 27576) on Saturday, January 29th, 2022, with visitation from 1pm-2pm and funeral beginning at 2pm. Burial will follow in Selma Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends following the burial at the home of Betty at 407 East Oak Street Selma, NC 27576.
