    Mrs. Betty Margaret West Byrd, age 89, of Four Oaks, NC, died Monday, March 3, 2025, at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield surrounded by family and friends.

    Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 10, 2025, at 2:00PM at the Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Four Oaks, NC. Visitation with the family will be held from 12:45PM until 1:45PM prior to the service. Officiating will be Rev. Gainus Sikes. Burial will follow at the Hills of the Neuse Memorial Gardens in Smithfield.

    Mrs. Byrd was born on May 21, 1935, in Johnston County to the late David Alton and Mazelle Woodall West. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hilton Davidian Byrd, Sr., and brothers, Charles West and Clifton West.

    Mrs. Byrd graduated from Benson High School in 1953. In addition to being a homemaker, she was a teacher’s assistant with Four Oaks Elementary School where working with children was her greatest delight! She and Hilton enjoyed working in their vegetable garden every summer as well as freezing and canning the fruits of their labor for the coming year. Preparing and cooking meals for her family was her most precious gift. Mrs. Byrd was a member of Johnson’s Chapel PFWB Church for many years and served with the children’s Sunday school program and missions outreach. In her retirement years, she and her husband, Hilton, became members of their local community church, Corinth Global Methodist Church, where she served in different capacities, with the women’s ministry bringing her much joy.

    Survivors include sons, Davidian Byrd and wife, Angela of Clayton, NC, Tony Byrd and wife, Amy of Archer Lodge, NC, grandchildren, Kurt Byrd and wife, Rachel of Clayton, NC, Kathryn Terry and husband, Andrew, of Lynchburg, VA, Ashlie Acevedo of Greensboro, NC, Zach Acevedo of Archer Lodge, NC, great-grandchildren, Jameson Byrd and Beatrice Byrd of Clayton, NC, sister, Marie Blackmon of Sanford, NC, and many nieces and nephews.

    The family would like to express their gratitude to each caregiver of Johnston Health-Smithfield, NC and the SECU Hospice House of Smithfield, NC. Each caregiver showed kindness and compassion to not only Mrs. Betty, but to the family and friends as well.
