Callie Stephenson Jones, of Smithfield, NC, passed into eternal rest on July 26, 2024. She was born on September 6, 1924, the daughter of Howard and Callie Lassiter Stephenson.
Her mother died in childbirth. Callie grew up in a large, extended family that included her grandparents and ten aunts and uncles as well as her father, step-mother and younger half-sister and brother.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Charles L. Jones, and her older son, Charles S. Jones. She is survived by her son, Mike (Tammy); her devoted daughter-in-law, Debbie; grandchildren, Stephen (Bethany), Susan (Mac), Amanda (Rishi) and Sarah (Zach); great-grandchildren, Caleb, Katee Grace, Izzy, Kavi and Mira; and her sister, Becky Stephenson Renfrow.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home on Friday August 2, 2024 at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow the service in Sunset Memorial Park in Smithfield.
Callie was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Smithfield. She was a farm wife from the 1940’s through the 1970’s, adept in all the skills required in that era, and a superb cook whose pecan pies were treasured at family reunions and church bake sales. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a person for whom family was the center of her life.
Callie was an avid reader until failing eyesight brought that pleasure to an end. She was able to live independently until the age of 97. While her body wore out near the end of her long life, her mind remained sharp and she was quick to give instructions to her family as she thought necessary.
