    Carol James Harper – age 95, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, in his home of Selma, surrounded by his family. Born, June 20, 1928, in Duplin County, he was a son of the late Ira G. Harper and Vara Boyette Harper. Carol is preceded in death by his siblings; Ivy Harper, Milo Harper, Jerald Harper, Mildred Wood and Catherine Kirby. He is also preceded by his daughters; Rose Holloman and Ellen Callon. Carol was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints, Smithfield Ward.

    Carol proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He had a very special relationship with his Savior. Carol lived a full life, he worked hard, played well and loved much. He was always willing to help anyone in need. He had a love for farming and gardening as well as hiking, fishing and playing on his computer. He was married to the love of his wife Jean Harper for 70 years. Carol was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather.

    Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints, 303 Canterbury Rd. Smithfield, NC, 27577, with the burial to follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Harper Family Cemetery on Guy Sanderson Rd. Albertson, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 10:00 a.m.

    He is survived by his wife of 70 years Mrs. Jean Jones Harper, sons; Jimmy Harper (Kathy) of Utah, Randy Harper (Katz) of Texas, Joseph Harper (Leigh) of Freemont, daughters; Barbara Sparks (Joe) of Pinetops, Cindy Harper of Selma, 18 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
