Charles Lynwood Renfrow

    Charles Lynwood Renfrow, age 76, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 31, 2022, at UNC Johnston Health Hospital in Smithfield. Born in Wilson County on May 25, 1946, he was the son to the late Rev. Willie E. Renfrow and Sallie Hare Renfrow.

    Lyn was a graduate of Glendale High School and Mount Olive College.  He loved his country and was drafted to serve in the army in Vietnam.  Charles was a minister for 51 years, serving Union Chapel Original Free Will Baptist in Plymouth, Fremont Original Free Will Baptist, Piney Grove Original Free Will Baptist in Kenly, St. Mary’s OFWB in New Bern, and Micro OFWB. Lyn served as past president of the Convention of Original Free Will Baptist and served on the Board of Trustees of the University of Mount Olive.  He was a longtime Western Conference Board of Ordination member and served on many other denominational committees.  Lyn also was a member and past Master of the Kenly Masonic Lodge #257.  Lyn loved his family and churches dearly. He loved his God and country and a host of friends made at all the churches he has served. Lyn always had a great sense of humor and loved a good joke. 

    The family will receive friends in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home on January 3, 2023 from 6-8pm. 

    A funeral service will be held at Micro OFWB Church January 4, 2023 at 2pm with burial at Bethany Baptist Church, Kenly to follow. 

    Lyn is survived by his wife, Edna Johnson Renfrow, daughters Kathy Woodard and husband Jesse of Kenly. Lynda Sutton and husband Todd of Kenly, stepsons Dale Hill and wife Amanda of Clayton, Kevin Hill and wife Cathy of Smithfield, Jason Hill and wife Heather of Pine Level, brother Harold Renfrow and wife Gail of Knightdale, sister Betty Strickland of Selma. Grandchildren, Noah Sutton of Kenly, Taylor Woodard of Kenly, and Raegen Sutton of Kenly. Step-grandchildren Hannah Hill and Micah Hill of Clayton, Jordan Hill and Silas Hill of Smithfield and Ben Hill of Pine Level.

    In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his girls, Gaye B Renfrow; brother, Ray Renfrow; and sister, Hilda Starling.  

    Donations may be made to Richard and Carolyn Hinnant Outreach Center, Micro or The University of Mount Olive.
