Charles Wayne Brown

Charles Wayne Brown, age 86, went to his heavenly home, Monday, January 12, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born, January 12, 1940, in Selma, NC to the late Walter Person and Mamie Atkinson Brown. A 1958 graduate of Selma High School, Wayne retired from working as a finance and insurance manager for many companies and car dealerships. He loved spending time with family, enjoyed old western movies, was a loyal Washington Redskins fan, he loved to tell stories about the good ole days and making people laugh. Wayne was faithful to his Lord and a lifelong member of Branch Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. He enjoyed serving on the bereavement committee, singing in the choir, and was always in the background serving in many other capacities.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 18, 2026, at the Branch Chapel Church with Rev. Walter Blackmon and Rev. Eric Narron officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive visitors beginning at 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Irene Brown, sister Frances Tilburg; three grandchildren, Laura Bailey, Samuel Bailey, Rachel Bailey and great-granddaughter, Jordan Southers.

Surviving are his son, Randall Brown and his wife Laura of Selma; daughters, Andrea Southers and her husband Steve of Benson and Dolores Bailey and her husband James of Selma; brother Frank Brown of Selma; nine grandchildren Charles Brown and wife Brandy, Stephanie Brown, Amanda Erwin, John Seifert and wife Jessica, Stephen Southers and wife Samantha, Jessica Creech and husband Jordan, Evan Bailey, Amanda French, and Amber Lindamood. Twenty great grandchildren Kaitlyn, Janie, Rosa Marie, Nevaeh, Cameron, Cloey, Ziggy, Isis, Zaiden, Vincent, Elijah, Jonathan, Dakota, Hailey, Makayla, Lucas, Travis, Lainey Kate, J.J., and Roland.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorial contributions be made to the SECU Hospice House, care of Johnston Health Foundation, PO Box 1376, Smithfield, NC 27577.
