Connie (Faye) Bowen Scott, age 68, died Thursday afternoon, July 6, 2023, in UNC Johnston Health of Smithfield, NC. She was born March 24, 1955 at Fitzsimons Army Hospital in Denver, CO to Claude Wise and Alice Faye Bowen, now of Clayton, NC.
Connie was a graduate of UNC Wilmington with a Degree in Marine Biology. She was very fortunate to land a dream job with the Skidaway Institute of Oceanography near Savannah, GA. Within a couple of years, she returned to Wilmington for the love of her life, Max Scott, Jr, who she married on August 26, 1980. They shared a passion for travel, saltwater fishing, nature and all creatures. One of their favorite locations to spend time by the ocean was Ocracoke Island.
Following Max’s untimely death in 1994, Connie continued to spend time near the water volunteering at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher or assisting with Sea Turtle Rescue. Connie retired from the Red Cross in Wilmington after 36 years and has since enjoyed traveling with family and friends as well as spending time at home adoring her Koi Pond.
There will be a private graveside service at Wilmington’s Oleander Memorial Gardens, where she will be buried beside Max.
Surviving Connie are her parents, her brothers, John Bowen and his wife Joann of Phoenix, AZ and Wayne Bowen and his wife Donna of Clayton, NC, as well as three nieces and five nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to one of the following:
