Connie Marie Ward Friend, age 82, of Selma, found her way to her home in Heaven on July 7, 2023, surrounded by her family. Born, December 1, 1940, she was a daughter of the late Lee Ward Sr. and Beulah Vaughan Ward. She is preceded in death by her husband, Playford Jefferson Friend; son, David Lynn Friend; brothers, Kenneth Ward, Garvey Ward, Lee Ward Jr, Eddie Ward; sisters, Betty Weiss, Pat Moore, Virginia Wolbert; and cousin, Ruth Ward.
Connie’s greatest joy in life was taking care of her family, from helping in raising her brothers and sisters, her own children, and her two grandchildren of whom she was so proud of. She so much loved her family as well as her faith in God. She was always ready to tell a story about her family or her life to others.
Connie is survived by her son, Brian Friend and wife Karen of Kenly; daughter, Tonya Friend of Selma; grandsons, Dylan Parrish of Raleigh and Matthew Friend of Selma; brothers, Denny Ward of Tennessee, David Ward of Tennessee, Ricky Ward of Tennessee; sisters, Dorothy Barker of New Jersey, Norma Ross of Tennessee, Lois Lilly of New Jersey, Carolyn Saul of New Jersey, and JoAnn Morrison of North Carolina.
A private celebration of life ceremony will be held by her family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the American Kidney Fund at 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300, Rockville, MD 20852.
