Mr. Dale Edwin Johnson, age 62, also known Lighter Knot, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, NC. Private Services will be held.
Dale was born and raised in Johnston County on the family farm, where he learned how to do hard work and do it right, Daddy made sure of that. He was preceded in death by his parents, DC and Faye Johnson, brothers, David Johnson and Jody Johnson.
Growing up Dale and all of his siblings fought like most families do, but hung together tighter than ticks on a hound, even when some tried to turn against each other. Dale served two years in the US Army, and ten years in the NC National Guard. He was a crackerjack mechanic and drove trucks hauling goods and then lumber. Following truck driving, he became part of the Homemaster’s Family, until he was no longer able to work. They were his family of love, and even when he became unable to work, they kept in contact and visited with him. Declining health left Dale mostly homebound, but he always enjoyed his trips with his sister, Tammy, where he talked to everyone he met. Dale loved to fish any time he was able. Dale was loved and cherished by those that mattered.
