David Patrick Galleo

David “Dave” Patrick Galleo, 57, passed away unexpectedly in Wilmington, North Carolina, on November 12, 2025. David was born on February 28, 1968, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, to the late Thomas and Evelyn Galleo. He enjoyed a happy life with his siblings in rural Chatham County, NC, where his love for family, friends, service, and country took root early.

After graduating from Northwood High School in 1986, David served in the US Air Force, earned a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from UNC in Chapel Hill, and continued his service career by transferring into the United States Marine Corps. During his distinguished Marine Corps career, Dave “GRIPPER” served with 2d Reconnaissance Battalion, 2d Force Reconnaissance Company, and Marine Special Operations Command. He completed numerous deployments, including combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, earning the respect and admiration of all who served alongside him. His devotion to mission and teammates was unwavering, and his presence left a lasting mark across the reconnaissance and special operations communities.

After retiring from active duty in 2011, Dave continued his life of service by joining the Marine Raider Training Center as a civilian instructor. There, he dedicated himself to teaching advanced concepts and preparing future generations of Marine Raiders. His impact extended far beyond the classroom—he mentored, guided, and inspired, shaping the careers and lives of countless Marines and civilians who were fortunate enough to know him.

Dave is survived by his loving wife, Andrea; his daughter, Taylor; stepsons, Tyler and James Owens; grandson, Kaden Owens; his brothers, Mike and his wife, Nancy, and Tommy and his wife, Renée; and his sister, Susan. He is preceded in death by his sister, Linda. Dave will be remembered for his loyalty, his quiet professionalism, his sense of humor, and his deep love for his family and the Marine Raider community.

A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at 12:00p.m. Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church Cemetery, 211 Irwin Drive, Newton Grove, NC 28366.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
