Daylon Odell Sullivan

Daylon Odell Sullivan, 87, of Selma, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Born April 27, 1939, he was the son of the late Leon Sullivan and Ethelle Andrews Sullivan. In addition to his parents, Daylon is preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Stancil Sullivan; son, Michael Allen Sullivan; sister, Sylvia Massengill; and brother, Donald Sullivan.

Daylon was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud family man whose life was centered around the people he loved most. He dedicated more than 40 years of hard work as a warehouse manager for a carpet and tile company, providing for his family with unwavering commitment, strength, and integrity. When he wasn’t working, Daylon found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved spending time fishing from the pier with his brothers and family, creating memories that are forever cherished. He enjoyed playing golf, eating sweets, taking family outings, and embarking on metal-detecting adventures in search of hidden treasures. Daylon also took great pride in caring for his yard and could often be found working outdoors, tending to his lawn and enjoying the satisfaction of a job well done.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at 2:00pm, at Oakland Community Church in Princeton. The family will receive visitors one-hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00pm. Friends and family are invited to gather in the fellowship hall following the service for a dessert bar provided by the church in honor of Daylon’s love for sweets. A private burial will be held in JR Sullivan Cemetery. The family will accept flowers at the homeplace, 5321 NC-39, Selma, NC 27576, or memorial contributions can be made to the SECU Hospice House fund at Johnston Health Foundation Attn: Hospice Fund PO Box 1376 Smithfield, NC 27577. Daylon is survived by his son, Shelton Sullivan and his wife Tanya; daughter, Teresa Lindsay and her husband Richard; siblings, Rudy Sullivan, Brenda Whitley, Diane Brady and her husband Alan, and Jackie Brown and her husband Randy; grandchildren, Faith Hicks and her husband Jonathan, Dillon Sullivan, and Anna Sullivan; great-grandson, Kanaan Hicks; and numerous nieces and nephews.
