Doris Ann Horne

Doris Ann Horne

Doris Wells Horne, 73, passed away peacefully with the comfort of staff at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, NC on March 1, 2026.

Doris was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend whose life was deeply rooted in faith, kindness, and connection with others.

Doris loved the Lord and was a faithful member of the Church of Faith in Selma, NC. Her relationship with the Lord shaped the way she lived her life with compassion, generosity and an open heart for others. She cherished company and never met a conversation she didn’t enjoy. Whether she was sitting on the porch with friends or on the phone for hours, she made people feel seen and heard.

Though she would be the first to admit, she wasn’t the best cook. There was one exception – her banana pudding. Every holiday and anytime she was asked, she made it with love and it was always right. Though a small tradition, it became a lasting memory.

She was born in Clayton, NC, to the late William Henry Wells, Sr. and Dorothy Mae Hood-Wells.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Clevon “Goody” Horne and her sister, Annie Mae Guin.

She is survived by her son, Timothy Horne and wife Samantha of Pikeville, NC; daughter, Dawn Horne Glover of Addison, NY; her brother, William “Bill” Henry Wells (Betty); and sister, Pat Wentz (Jack); and 3 step-daughters, Joy, Ann, and Tina.

She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Eleighse and Elighah. She especially enjoyed her time spent with her step-grandson, who she lovingly referred to as “action” Jackson.

While Doris loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren alike, her deepest connection was shared with her “eyeball” Kayla Horne.

Immediate family will receive family and friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at the Church of Faith in Selma, NC. A funeral service, officiated by Johnny Dicorte, will follow at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. Burial will follow in Watson Cemetery in Kenly, NC.

“Thank you grandma for always loving me exactly as I am. I will always be your girl and will carry you in my heart forever and always.” – Kayla
