Selma – Dorothy Mae Godwin “Bunny”, age 91, passed into her everlasting home on Monday June 30, 2025. Born September 24, 1933, in Johnston County, she was a daughter of the late Franklin and Katie Stewart. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, William Godwin Jr.; son, Donnie Ray Godwin, brothers; Johnny Stewart (Clara), Frank “Sonny” Stewart (Mabel), Al “Teeny” Stewart (Shirley), sisters; Bernice Wadsworth (Harvey), Jean Moore (Willie).

Dorothy began her faith journey at Sardis Baptist Church before transferring her membership to Selma Original Free Will Baptist Church. She worked for many years as a supervisor at Champion Manufacturing in Clayton. Dorothy was co-owner and founder of Selma Jewelry in the 1970s and worked there after her retirement from Champion. She found joy in the simple things of life and loved being outdoors, tending to her garden or just enjoying the sunshine. More than anything, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday July 2, 2025, at 11:00am in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Grubbs officiating. Burial will follow in Selma Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 – 11:00am.

She is survived by her sister Joyce Strickland (Bill), son Roy Godwin (Phyllis), grandchildren; Laura Grady (Lawrence), William Lynn Godwin (Diane), great-grandchildren; Stephanie Peacock, Noah Grady, Jordan Barnes, Baleigh Godwin, William Vanderbilt Godwin and four great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorial contributions be sent to a charity or church of one’s choice.
