Eddie Solomon Langston, Jr.

Eddie Solomon Langston, Jr.

Eddie Solomon Langston Jr. was born on December 29, 1945, in Dunn, North Carolina, to the late Eddie Solomon Langston Sr. and Lennie Marie Cogdell. The youngest of two siblings, Eddie was a dedicated son who cherished his family.

After completing his education at the Johnston County Training School, Eddie proudly served in the Air Force as a Military Police officer, with assignments in Thailand and the Philippines during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he began a long and successful career at IBM in 1969, where he worked until his retirement in 2002. Throughout his time at the company, he was recognized with numerous Corporate Awards for Excellence and Outstanding Achievement.

Known for his infectious smile and vibrant spirit, Eddie brought joy to those around him. He had a deep love for basketball, and during the season, he transformed into the best couch coach, passionately calling plays from his living room. An avid participant as well, he played both basketball and softball in IBM leagues. His love for football also shone through as he playfully bantered with his sister about their favorite teams.

Eddie was a master at the card game Bid Whist, always eager to share his skills with newcomers. He had a fondness for baseball caps, ensuring each matched his outfit perfectly. Eddie was a beacon of light in the lives of his loved ones.

He leaves behind a cherished legacy, including his sister, Marie A. Hunter, brother-in-law Gerald, nephew Craig, and his beloved children: son David and daughter-in-law Priscilla; daughters Sonia McCantz, Wendy Langston, and Renee Clark. He was preceded in death by his son, Eddie Solomon Langston III. Additional family members include his sister Brenda Malloy and brothers Edward, Patrick, Martin, Carlus Langston, and Earl Perkins, as well as the late sisters Lahoma and Lula Langston. Eddie’s memory will also be preserved by his seventeen loving grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Crystal Adams, his devoted companion for many years, also mourns his passing.

Eddie’s love greatly inspired those who knew him, instilling strength, courage, and hope. He will be deeply missed.

As the scripture reminds us, “Eddie is absent from the body and present with the Lord.” (2 Corinthians 5:8)
