Edna Carol Bagley was born March 1, 1955, in Goldsboro, North Carolina, to the late Annie Priscilla Williams Bagley and Thomas Hood Bagley.
She attended Johnston County Schools and graduated from Princeton High School, class of 1973. After school she worked at GTE Sylvania and Exide Electronics. She retired from QRP Incorporated in Leland, North Carolina in 2016. She loved her family, her church family, and many friends. She lived a very quiet and private life. She enjoyed shopping, worshipping, and participation in community activities. In 1986, she married Ennis “Pete” Oates. To this union, two children were born, Latonya Denise Oates and Ennis Dexter Oates.
Earlier in life, Edna joined her longtime family church, Bentonville Disciples of Christ. Upon family relocation to Wilmington, North Carolina, she joined Enoch Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Prior to the covid pandemic and illness, she was very active. She served on the Usher Board and as a deaconess. She was also active in Women Auxiliary Ministry.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth “Skip” Cole and niece Michelle Bagley.
She leaves to cherish her memories, husband Ennis Deroy Oates; one daughter, Latonya Denise Oates; and one son, Ennis Dexter Oates (Eboni) and the love of her life, granddaughter Averie Ryan Oates. Also, her sister, Diane Bagley, her brother, Anthony Bagley, two nieces, Angela and Deanna Bagley, four nephews, Kenny Cole, Kevin A. Cole, Brandon Bagley, and Jeremy Bagley; four sisters-in-law, Louise Cole, Felicia Oates Bagley, Anthinette Oates Hines, and Jacqueline Oates.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Parrish Funeral Home Chapel at 12:00 p.m. There will be a viewing at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Selma Memorial Gardens.
