Fannie Ann Greene

    Birth Date: 11/01/1935
    Deceased Date: 11/20/2023

Fannie Ann Youngblood Greene, born on November 1, 1935, in Selma, North Carolina to Zelphia Youngblood and Charles Reid Sr., passed away peacefully on November 20, 2023, in her hometown of Selma. Fannie was preceded in death by her beloved oldest daughter, Roslyn Faye Greene Akiens, and beloved youngest sister Martishue Patterson Ennis.

Fannie is survived by her daughters Pamela R. Greene and Karen Greene Pearce of Selma, son James C. Stancil of Smithfield, North Carolina, and sisters Delia Patterson of Washington DC and Lillian Moore of Selma NC as well as brother John Albert Patterson in Maryland.

Fannie married Rossie Lee Greene on December 25, 1954. She attended and graduated from Richard B. Harrison School in 1953. Fannie worked in the garment industry and as a nursing assistant in New York where she learned to sew with her mother at the age of 7 which led to a lifelong career as a seamstress. She later worked for herself making bridal gowns, prom dresses, and children’s clothing before being employed by a fabric doll maker in New Jersey.

Fannie accepted Christ at Harrison Chapel Church of God in Christ in Selma and attended for many years before joining Interstate Ministries in Clayton for the past 18 years. Her favorite hobbies were sewing, crocheting, reading Western books, watching football, and attending church functions. Fannie was loved by everyone she knew for her kind heart; she loved to cook and was renowned for her homemade chicken salad, collards, and fried chicken – Fannie would feed anyone at her table or cook for her neighbors or friends if they needed it; offering sage advice on life’s ups and downs along with it. Her faith was an important part of Fannie’s life; she loved the Lord above all else.

Special thanks go to the Nurses of the 4th Floor at Johnston Health Smithfield; Nurses of the 3rd floor at Johnston Health Clayton; Heartland Hospice Raleigh NC for treating our Mother with kindness and dignity during this difficult time.

Fannie Ann Youngblood Greene will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew her but never forgotten as we carry on her legacy with us forevermore.
