Francis Anthony Tichauer

Francis Anthony Tichauer, 80, of Smithfield passed away at his home on January 20, 2026. He was born August 10, 1945 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Ernest J. Tichauer and Bridget Mary O’Malley Tichauer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two of his children, Mark Tichauer and Tina Tichauer; and a brother, James Tichauer.

Frank was raised in Orange County, California. After high school, Frank went to college and was then drafted in to the Army where he was able to finish his Master’s Degree in Aeronautics. He was a pilot for 22 years while in the Army. He was highly decorated, receiving the Bronze Star and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He retired from the Army in 1989 at the rank of Lt. Colonel. After retiring, he was a professional civilian contract pilot for 25 years.

Frank was a true patriot and an unsung hero. He loved his country, family and friends with all his heart.

Frank is survived by his wife, Linda Tichauer; brother, Martin Tichauer of Smithfield; sister, Bridget Reid of Smithfield; stepchildren, Robert Anderson of Raleigh and Melanie Peedin (Timothy) of Smithfield; and grandchildren, Kayla Moore of Four Oaks, and Shaianne Peedin of Honea Path, SC.
