Gary David Johnson

    Gary David Johnson, 70, of Selma, North Carolina, died on December 31, 2022. He was born in Lewiston, Maine, to Maurice Walter and Laila Wave Johnson. The family moved to Tallahassee where he lived until he was a young adult. In the 70’s, Gary moved to Selma, where he found his home, worked and raised his family.

    Gary was known to his family and friends as a car and all things mechanical enthusiast. He was certified in numerous mechanical and electrical areas and could make just about anything run correctly. At one point, he rebuilt and restored an Oldsmobile Cutlass from scratch, which he cherished. Gary loved racing as well as going on racing trips and outings with his racing buddies. He loved life, joking around, meeting and helping people, and traveling. His travels included visiting all fifty states.

    In 2017, Gary met Judy Kennedy of Benson who became his best friend and soulmate. They traveled together, visited friends and family, and enjoyed being together.

    A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Parrish Funeral home at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 14, 2022. 

    The family will receive friends immediately following the service. 

    Gary is survived by his son Brad Johnson and family of Wilson, daughter Shannon Wood and family of Evans, Georgia, Sister Leej Copperfield and family of Raleigh, sister Wendy Hadland and family of Tallahassee, Florida, Aunt Ruth Sansalone, and several cousins and their families.
