George Harvey White, 84, passed away at Rex Hospital on Tuesday, December 19, 2023. Born in Durango, Colorado on February 5, 1939, he was the son of the late Loyd White and Sally “Sue” Mullenix White.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Janice Pope White and brother, Loyd R. White.
George is survived by his special nieces and nephew, DonnaSue Graham and husband, Terry, Sonya Pope, and Jeffrey White; sister-in-laws, Faye McLain, Cindy Hooks, Brenda Lewis, and Joyce Pope. He is also survived by several other nieces and nephews and cousins that he loved dearly.
George had a heart for education. For many years, he served as a superintendent in Alaska for the public school system. George could often be seen reading. Being a history buff, his favorite books were historical novels.
A service to celebrate George’s life will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 in the chapel of Kenly Funeral Service at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Internment services will be held in Kenly Cemetery.
