Hazel Marlow Strickland, 96, of Clayton passed away Saturday morning, July 13, 2024, at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield surrounded by her family. She was born and raised in Johnston County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jennings Starling, sisters, Mrytle Wall and Rachel Thompson, a brother, Willie Marlow.
Hazel worked in the labor and delivery unit at Johnston Memorial Hospital, then later retired as a seamstress at Champion Sewing Factory in Clayton. She was a very active member of her church. She enjoyed singing, traveling, baking and cooking. Hazel was well known for famous spaghetti. She was very caring and always cared for other family members when they were in need.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home by Elder Tony Parker. Burial will follow in Clayton Cemetery.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
