    LIFE / OBITUARY – Helen M. Vinson, a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend to many peacefully passed away on November 26, 2024, and went to meet her Heavenly Father. Mama was born on July 13, 1936, to the late Louise and Wade Vinson. Throughout her 88 years, she lived a life filled with love,compassion, and unwavering dedication to her family, church and community. During the latter part of her life, she relocated to Maryland.

    Mama began her walk with the Lord at an early age. Her parents taught her to fear the Lord and seek His guidance. While living in North Carolina Mama was a member of Howell Chapel Church of Christ, as well as St. Peters. She served as an usher and sang in the choir. When she relocated to Maryland, she partnered with Faith City Central in Temple Hills, MD.

    Mama was a graduate of Johnston County Training School located in Smithfield N.C. She worked at Burlington Mills, K.R. Edwards, Oasis Nursing Home and in her later years Michelle, her daughter-in-love, saw Mama’s need to be involved and allowed her to work with the children at A Bright Start to keep her active.

    Mama was a servant. She was always lending a helping hand to those in need. She served at food banks as well as cared for the elderly and ran errands for those who asked for her service. Mama was also an active member of Evelyn Cole Senior Activity Center. The people she interacted with at the Center became extended family. She looked forward to spending time with them daily.

    Mama married her high school sweetheart LaSalle Richardson on July 12, 1955. There were four children born unto their union, Teruko, Johnnie, Stephen and Shelton. Memories of Mama will be cherished by her children: her daughter, Teruko Richardson; her sons, Johnnie D. Richardson (Valerie), Stephen D. Richardson and Shelton D. Richardson (Michelle); her grandchildren, Isiah L. Scriven, Jr., LaTonya Scriven Charles, Jason Richardson, Octavia A. Richardson, Shawn Jones, Cindy Jones, Courtney Richardson Jones (Jermel), Shekeyta Spells, Kiara Richardson, Jasmine Richardson; her great-grandchildren, Kailah Reaves, Devon J. Richardson, Joshua Calvin Douglas Jones, Tymir Spells, Tehron Kent Tyler Buckner, Khai Moore, Kason Richardson, Chase Howard, Jayden Howard and Miheir Howard. Memories of Mama will also be treasured by many nieces and nephews as well as Rita Richardson, Vivian Dobbin, Sherralyn McCoy, Ruth Ray and Shirley Richardson who were very dear to her along with a host of other family and friends.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Wade and Louise Vinson; her brothers,Cecil, Fulton, Troy and Walter Vinson; her sisters, Annie Lee Frazier and Dorthy Jean Sanders, and her great granddaughter, MeNisha Jones.
