Four Oaks: Mr. Hilton Davidian Byrd, Sr., age 89, of US Hwy 301 South, died Monday, July 10, 2023 at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, July 17, 2023 at the Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Four Oaks. Officiating will be Rev. Gainus Sikes. Burial will follow in Hills of the Neuse Memorial Gardens in Smithfield.
Mr. Byrd was born on January 9, 1934 in Johnston County to the late Charlie Hatcher and Esther Allen Byrd. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Lula Weeks Byrd; sisters and brothers, Rayford Byrd, Roy Byrd, Bill Byrd, Mae Singletary, Bobby Byrd, Janice Thorne, and Betty Jean Capps. Mr. Byrd retired from Carolina Packers after 47 years as Vice President and General Manager and continued to serve on the Board of Directors until his death. During his career, he served as the President of the North Carolina Meat Processor Association. Mr. Byrd served Johnson’s Chapel PFWB Church for many years leading congregational singing, teaching Sunday School, and as a deacon. During his retirement years he and his wife, Betty became members of their community church, Corinth Global United Methodist where he served in many capacities.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Betty M. Byrd; sons, Davidian Byrd and wife, Angela of Clayton, Tony Byrd and wife, Amy of Archer Lodge; grandchildren, Kurt Byrd and wife, Rachel, Kathryn Byrd and fiancé, Andrew Terry; great-grandchildren, Jameson and Beatrice Byrd; sister, Frances Ireland of Benson; many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 12:45PM to 1:45PM Monday, July 17, 2023 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Four Oaks prior to the service.
