Ila Grey Pittman Hayes Bizzell, age 97, died Saturday afternoon, July 8, 2023 at her daughter’s home, with her family by her side. Born April 7, 1926 in Wayne county to the late Charlie and Beulah Toler Pittman, she was the widow of both Willis Leon Hayes and Obadiah Bizzell. She was also preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law Grace and Charlie Evans.
Mrs. Ila was a farmer’s wife and loved growing all sorts of plants. That is probably what led her to floral design with Carolina Pottery and working in the greenhouses at Cyn-Mar Wholesale Florist in Pine Level. She was a lifelong member of Bizzell Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church. Ila Grey, also referred to as “Mama” and “Granny Ila,” was an inspiration to her family and friends. She was an example of pure holiness, and encouraged those she loved to live their lives in a way that would be pleasing to the Lord. Her last few years were spent at her daughter and son-in-law’s home, where she was well loved and was very grateful for their care and support. She never complained and was lovingly referred to as a “perfect patient” by her daughter, Janet.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 15, 2023 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with the Rev. Phillip Bland and Chaplain (Colonel) Retired Bobby Whitlock officiating. Burial will follow in the Bizzell Grove Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. just prior to the service.
Surviving are her children, Janet Hayes Bridgers and husband Jerry of Princeton, Jerry Bizzell and wife Francine of Selma, Sandra Bizzell Pearce and the late Ashworth Pearce of Selma; deceased children are Glenn Bizzell, Gail Bizzell Reynolds and Grace Bizzell Walston of Princeton; grandchildren, Jody Bridgers and wife Lynn, Jill Eubanks and husband Ken, Tim Bizzell and wife Dana, Beth Arrington and husband Howard, Darlene Peedin and husband Terry,, Donna Hinnant, Deanna Jernigan, Gary Pearce and wife Christy, Shannon Van Vliet and husband Brian, Sheri Graham and husband Jarrett and Sandee Hales and husband Ryan; great-grandchildren, Linden Bridgers and wife Makenzie, Preston Bridgers and fiancé Kassy Barton, Karston Eubanks, Addison Eubanks, Chaston Eubanks, Jordan Bizzell, Alex Pearce, Chelsea Pearce, Shelley Peedin, Robert Hinnant, Parker Bizzell, Brandon Peedin, Eleanor Hinnant, Matthew Pearce, Bryant Hinnant, Evan Graham, Reid Graham, Hannah Hales, Blythe Hales and Ameiah Hales.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Bizzell Grove Memorial Gardens, c/o Darlene Peedin, 4700 Bizzell Grove Church Road, Princeton, NC 27569.
