Imogene Gurley Capps, 82, of Princeton, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2022 at home surrounded by her family. Imogene was born in Johnston County on May 20, 1940 to the late Carl Roberts Gurley, Sr. and Martitia Holt Gurley.
In addition to her parents, Imogene is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Eugene Capps; brother, Bob Gurley; and sister, Peggy Thompson.
Imogene is survived by her son, Johnny Capps and wife Delaine of Princeton; daughter, Julie Capps of Princeton; grandchildren, Heather Woodard and husband Josh, Nikki Daughtry and husband Dillon, and Holly Capps; great grandchildren, Whitney Woodard and Lane Woodard; sister, Connie Oliver of Pine Level and several other family and friends.
Imogene was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She attended and was a member for most of her life at Princeton United Methodist Church where she taught bible school, Sunday school, sang in the choir, and served on many of the church committees. Most recently she began attending Rains Crossroads Original Free Will Baptist Church of Princeton. She helped and operate Capps Corner and enjoyed her hobby of painting. She painted several portraits under the guidance of Dorothy Hooks in Smithfield. Most importantly she loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be dearly missed but precious memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
The funeral service will be held at 7:00PM on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at Rains Crossroads Original Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend Johnny Sullivan officiating. A visitation will be held two hours prior to the service from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at Rains Crossroads Original Free Will Baptist Church in Princeton. The burial will be held in the Princeton Cemetery on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at 11:00am. Serving as pallbearers will be Josh Woodard, Dillon Daughtry, Tim Woodard, Tyson Radford, Ashley Rains, and Jamey Wilkinson.

Mrs. Imogene was such a wonderful Lady! I will ALWAYS remember seeing her at the Princeton Post Office or at Church throughout my years growing up and living here in Princeton. She always greeted me with such a beautiful SMILE and always cared about how I was doing.. I can honestly say that every time I think of Mrs. Imogene, I will always see her smiling 🤗
