Smithfield – James “Jim” Edward Jones, age 86, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, September 6, 2024, in Wake Medical Center of Raleigh. Born, July 24, 1938, in Ashe County, he was a son of the late James Kermit Jones and Mildred Osborne Jones.
Jim was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and attended First Baptist Church in Smithfield. He graduated from Riverview High School in Creston, NC and then completed a bachelors degree at Eastern Tennessee University in Johnson City. Jim was a banker for many years and later a businessman during his career. In his later years he enjoyed playing golf & gin at the Johnston County Country Club and solving all the worlds problems with his friends there. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Smithfield. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the fellowship hall and at the home of Jim and Carolyn at other times.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Lambert Jones, son, Doug Jones (wife Allison) of Smithfield, brother, Robert “Bob” Jones (wife Dot) of Jefferson, grandson, Wade Jones, nephew, Brandon Crocker, nieces; Donna Rousch (husband David), Kim Gibbs (husband Kelvin), great-nephews; Dustin Gilley, Tyler Gilley, Grayson Gilley, and Eli Gibbs, three fur babies; Cody, Louie, Murphy and his baby bird.

Wonderful, wonderful man. He will be missed by many.
