James (Jim) Franklin Newman 94, of Clayton, NC was surrounded by loved ones as he went to heaven on January 1, 2023. He was predeceased in death by his parents Isaac Newman and Selena C. Newman (Truex) of Belmar, NJ. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Dorothy M. Newman of Clayton, NC.
Jim served our country in WWII in the Navy from April 4, 1946 to May 16, 1949. He worked for American Bakeries Company as a delivery truck driver until his retirement where he then moved to Florida and drove a public bus. He loved all cars and tinkered on them often throughout his earlier years.
He is also survived by his four children, Ruth Dean (Tod) of Clayton, NC, Kenneth Newman (Lynn) of Wake Forest, NC, Melinda Van Houten (John) of Okeechobee, FL, and Gayle Newman of Franklin, TN. He has six grandchildren, Melissa Hill (Channing) of Clayton, NC, Jeffrey Hogan of Hollywood, Maryland, Allison Hill (Bennett) of Nashville, TN, Emily Brunelle (Jordan) of Columbia, TN, Robert Newman of Wake Forest, NC, and Andrew Newman of Flushing, NY. He also has eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family will have a Celebration of Life at a later date to be announced.
