Jimmy Doan, 88, of Wendell, NC, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2024, after a life dedicated to service and faith.
Born on March 7, 1936, in Wake County, Jimmy was the son of the late Walter and Mildred Hardy Doan. Throughout his long and fulfilling life, Jimmy embodied the values of dedication, hard work, and service to others. For over 50 years, he made a profound impact in the public safety field, serving as a Sergeant with the Johnston County Sheriff’s Department and devoting 40 years to the Corinth Holders Volunteer Fire Department. He began his working career after high school with a surveying crew in Eastern NC. Soon after this, he started working in the tractor business, beginning with Raleigh Tractor and Truck Company. For 30 years, Jimmy worked at several farm equipment businesses throughout the Triangle Area. Finally culminating as an ownership partner in the new Wendell John Deere Dealership in 1977. Following this, Jimmy worked at the Department of Corrections for the State of NC, which helped launch his second career in Law Enforcement that eventually led him to his beloved Johnston County Sheriff’s Department where he found his true calling.
Jimmy was a man of deep faith and lived by the guiding principle of serving others, serving as a Sunday School teacher and a Deacon for many years. His steadfast trust in God was a cornerstone of his life, and he took great joy in helping those around him. His legacy of kindness, integrity, and service will be remembered by all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of over 68 years, Alice Price Doan of the home; sons, Perry Doan (Debbie) and Louis Doan; sister, Carol Woodard; grandson, Justin Doan (Sara); and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Flowers are welcome , but donations to Divine Crossings Baptist Church in memory of Jimmy are welcome.
A visitation will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, November 18, 2024, at Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory, 211 W. Third Street, Wendell, NC 27591, with a funeral service starting at 11:00 pm. Burial will follow at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery.
