Smithfield (Brogden) – James “Jimmy” E. Braswell, age 80, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones, in his home of Smithfield. Born, September 18,1944, in Johnston County, he was a son of the late Ernest Ingram Braswell and Della Strickland Braswell. He is preceded in death by his brother, Charles Braswell.
Jimmy was a quiet and simple man and led a simple life. He was known for his smile and being laid back. Jimmy worked for many years at Fieldcrest and later for Burlington Mills. Before retirement he worked as groundskeeper at the Neuse Golf Course and worked as a locksmith on the side. He was an avid knife collector. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as going out to eat and to the movies with his wife Debra. Jimmy also loved their cats Kitty and later Misty. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00p.m.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years Mrs. Debra Westbrook Braswell, sons; Mike Braswell (Sherry) of Princeton, Brian Wesley Braswell (Crystal) of Goldsboro, stepson, Chris Blackman (Sharon) of Willow Springs, daughter, Wendy Braswell Shope (Marc) of Raleigh, sisters; Audrey Eatmon of Selma, Sherry Miller of Lillington, 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews & cousins.
