James Melvin (Jim) Mitchell, 69 of Smithfield, North Carolina passed away on January 19th, 2024, in Ocala, Florida.
Jim was born in Smithfield, North Carolina, to J.M. Mitchell and Nellie Mae Pilkington on December 9th, 1954. He went to high school at Smithfield Selma School and graduated in 1973. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Nova University in 1989. He worked in manufacturing, quality engineering management, and management in the aerospace industry for 40 years. He was an avid golfer, found a new love of camping all over the state of Florida, working in his yard, and had a passion for working out at a gym all his life. He enjoyed playing with his dogs, Emmy, Candy, and Cheyenne, and the ones that had gone before them. He loved to be around his family and friends.
Jim is survived by his wife, Teresa Mitchell, 64, originally of Brooklyn, New York but has made Ocala, Florida home. Jim and Teresa originally came to Ocala, Fl. in 1980, the year they were married. All three of their children were born in Ocala, Fl.; son James Vincent Mitchell of Selma, NC, son Nicholas Alexander Mitchell of Wesley Chapel, Florida, daughter Alexis Nicole Mitchell of Oldsmar, Florida, and grandson Asher Allen Greenfield Mitchell, his brother Timothy Mitchell of Zebulon, NC, his niece Erin Mitchell of Wilson, NC , his sister Louise Mitchell Pearce and husband Doug Pearce of Morehead City, NC, niece Christy Pearce of Morehead City, NC and the late Michael Pearce. He is preceded in death by his parents, J. M. Mitchell, and Nellie Mae Pilkington Mitchell.
Funeral service will be held at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Smithfield, North Carolina at 1:00pm on Saturday, January 27th, 2024, followed by a graveside service in Sunset Memorial Park in Smithfield, North Carolina.
A viewing will be held at Roberts Funeral Home West in Ocala, Florida on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.
A viewing will be held at Parrish’s Funeral in Selma, North Carolina on Friday, January 26, 2024, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
