James Ronald (“Ronnie”) Greene, age 74, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, in the UNC Rex Hospital. Ronnie was born on September 23, 1949 in Johnston County and he was the son of the late George and Fannie Greene. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Brenda Greene and Peggy Crocker, and brother Charles Greene.
Ronnie was a hardworking man who was always busy working on a project. During his career, Ronnie worked for various companies including JEDCO Construction and John Deere, served as a volunteer firefighter (Brogden Volunteer Fire Department), and retired from the Johnston County Landfill. In his retirement years, he enjoyed volunteering with local food banks and helping his wife care for children. Ronnie was a long time member and deacon of North Smithfield Baptist Church. He took joy in helping others and quietly doing God’s work, always ready to jump in to help you or offer encouragement. Ronnie was a man of few words, with a huge heart, and a great sense of humor. If you asked him, he’d tell you he loved wrestling and doing what his wife told him to do.
Ronnie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and brother to a large family. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Barbara Sue Moye Greene of Smithfield, and children William “Billy” Greene (Robyn) of Smithfield, Deborah Greene Barbour (Robert) of Smithfield, James “Jamie” Greene (Allison) of Clayton, Timothy Greene (Kelli) of Raleigh and Renathe Cotten of Clayton. Ronnie was a proud “Pa” to his grandchildren and great grandchildren: Robbie Greene, Roxie Hopkins, Tyler Greene, Tara Stewart, Christopher Beasley, Amber Barbour, Savannah Greene, Michelle Barbour, Shelby Greene, Summer Barbour, Ryder Stewart, Liam Greene, Raelynn Stewart, Ruby Stewart, Tyler Greene Jr, Axeton Hopkins and Paisley Greene. He is survived by his brothers Donnie Greene and Tom Greene, sister-in-law Patsy Greene and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed dearly by his dog Cissy, family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Mon, June 17, 2024 at 1:00pm at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma. Following, a funeral service will be held at 2:00pm in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with a graveside service in the D.A. Overbee Cemetery after the funeral.
