Smithfield – Jerry Stephen Barbour, age 89, passed away Sunday July 6, 2025 at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. He was born in Johnston County on October 30, 1935 to the late Luther Earl Barbour and Laura Casey Barbour. In addition to his father and mother, he is also preceded in death by his wife, Martha Riley Barbour; grandson, Joseph Murphy; brothers, Donald, and James Barbour; sister, Ann Sloan.

A graveside service will be held in Casey Cemetery in Clayton on Thursday July 10, 2025 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Donnie Barbour officiating.

Mr. Barbour is survived by his two daughters, Tammy Barbour, and Martha Ann Underwood; brother-in-law, Jimmy Riley, and wife Gail; his loving grandchildren and great grandchildren: Jillian and daughter Ireland Murphy, Lauren Edwards and her two daughters, Brianna Jackson and Kyndall Rose Jackson.

Jerry was a loving father and husband, special grandpa, and great grandpa. He loved all his family very much and always wanted to help others.

Jerry and his wife Martha met at a dance and knew immediately they would spend the rest of their life together. They spent 61 wonderful and loving years together and held each other’s hand right till the end. As long as they were able, they spent precious moments dancing the night away. What a beautiful sight to see of two people very much in love. He was blessed to leave this world peacefully and will be missed by all forever.
