Jimmie James Godwin

Jimmie James Godwin, 87, of Smithfield, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at the SECU Hospice House. Born December 5, 1937, in Johnston County, he was the son of the late Ralph and Lena Godwin. In addition to his parents, Jimmie is preceded in death by his brother, Gerald Godwin.
Jimmie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He served his country in the United States Air Force for 8 years as a mechanic. Following his service, Jimmie was a master craftsman mechanic in the automotive industry. Over the last several years, he has been the caregiver for the love of his life, Phyllis.
Jimmie is survived by his wife of 61 years, Phyllis Godwin; son James “Jay” Godwin (Debra) of Four Oaks; brother, Bud Godwin; sisters, Betty Norris, Joanne Pope, Ruth Strickland, and Lois Wilkins; sister-in-law, Brinda Pearce; brother-in-law, Joe Pearce; grandchildren, Brittany Hunter (Daniel) and Jordan Pearce; and great-grandchildren, Tylon Hunter and Mason Hunter.
A graveside service will take place Monday, December 8, 2025, at 11:00am, at Knollwood Memorial Park in Clayton.
