John Thomas “Tommy” Woodall, Sr., age 76, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2024. Born, August 6th, 1948 in Johnston County, he was the son of the late Raymond and Vara Woodall.
Tommy was drafted into the Army in April of 1969. He served for three years, reaching the rank of 1st Lieutenant as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. After discharge, he went back to work for BellSouth, where he retired after 40 years of service to the company. Tommy was an active member of the Selma Volunteer Fire Department for many years.
Since retirement, Tommy kept up his hobbies of fishing, boating, and watching his favorite YouTube Outdoors channels. His grandchildren were the light of his life and he spent much of his free time attending their extracurricular activities and events.
He enjoyed traveling with his family, visiting 46 states. Though he ventured farther from home, some of his favorite places that were like a second home to him included Blounts Creek, Kennels Beach, Aurora Beach, and Atlantic Beach.
A celebration of life will be conducted at 7:30pm on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors prior to the service, beginning at 6:00pm.
Surviving are his wife, BJ Woodall; sons, John Woodall, Jr. (Doyle) and Paul Woodall (Leta); grandsons, Tommy Woodall, Ben Woodall, and Luke Woodall; granddaughter, Madeline Woodall; brother, Charles Woodall (Ann); as well as two nieces, a nephew and other family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Selma Fire Fighters Association at 201 N. Webb Street, Selma, NC 27576. Please note “In memory of Tommy Woodall” in the memo line of checks.
