Josephine Davis Jones, 92, died peacefully at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, NC on Monday, May 8, 2023. Jo (as her friends and family fondly called her) was born in Hannibal, Missouri on February 5, 1931, to Dean Wright Davis and Jewel Featherston Davis.
Jo is preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Lloyd Rhuel Jones, her parents, and a brother, Donald Spencer Davis of Erwin, NC. Jo is survived by a nephew, Ronald Dean Davis, and his wife Stuart of Lake Waccamaw, NC, and their three children, and by a cousin, Roberta Henry (Robert), and family of Texas. Jo is survived, as well, by her dearest friend of many years, Mrs. Ann Keen, of Smithfield, NC, and by her dear friends in the West Calvary FWB Church of Smithfield, NC.
Jo dearly loved her family, her friends, and her church. She devoted many years to teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir, and performing many faithful duties related to her church. Jo had a love for travel and a love of reading, especially her Bible until her eyesight began to fail in her later years.
A special visitation for family and friends will be Thursday, May 11th at the West and Dunn Funeral Home in Erwin, NC from 1 o’clock to 2 o’clock. An interment service will follow the visitation at the Erwin Memorial Cemetery. The service will be officiated by the Reverend Ricky Ham of the West Calvary FWB Church of Smithfield.
A very special thank you goes out to the dedicated and caring staff at Smithfield Manor in Smithfield, NC. Josephine cherished all of her many friendships there, especially her friendship with her wonderful roommate, Mrs. Nettie Cox. A big thank you, also, to the caring staff of the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield.
