Joyce Annette Ennis

Joyce Harris Ennis, 81, of Smithfield, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on June 26 while being cared for by her son and daughter-in-law at their home in Carolina Beach. Born February 28th, 1945, in Wilmington, NC, she was the daughter of Frank and Rose Harris of Carolina Beach, NC.

Joyce lived in Smithfield for most of her life and was an active member in her community. Defined by her deep faith in the Lord, Joyce was a member of Hocutt Baptist Church in Clayton, NC, where she taught Sunday School for many years. Her gift of teaching the Bible spanned over 50 years. After many years of service, Joyce retired from serving as the Clerk to the Johnston County Board of Commissioners. She enjoyed many hobbies, including the Red Hat Society and the Fancy Feet dance troupe. She had numerous close friends in her church and community that she traveled, danced, dined, and laughed with. Above all, Joyce loved her family dearly and took great pride in them. She valued time with her family and made treasured Christmas calendars each year.

Joyce is survived by her three sons, Phillip (Sherri) of Carolina Beach, NC, Scott (Stephanie) of Davidson, NC, and Jimmy (Jamie) of Huntersville, NC; grandchildren, Jackson, Emily, Connor, Luke, and Reagan, and grand fur babies, Finley Rose and Oliver Ray; brother, Frank (Starr) Harris of Clayton, NC and many nieces, nephews and other family. Joyce is predeceased by her loving husband, Phillip Bruce Ennis Sr., and siblings Roseanne Moore and Carol Connor.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 1st at 11:00 am at Hocutt Baptist Church, 314 W. Horne Street, Clayton, NC, 27520. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church.
