Benson, NC: Mrs. Katie Lanzoni Horkavy, age 65, of W. Main Street, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 in Puerto Vallarta Mexico. Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM-Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Rose and Graham Funeral Chapel in Benson, NC. Pastor Ryan Horkavy will officiate. A Private Committal Service will be held following this service at Catawba Springs Christian Church in Apex, NC.
Mrs. Horkavy was born on August 7, 1956 in Meriden, CT, to the late Robert Lanzoni, Sr., and Frances Snow Lanzoni. She was also preceded in death by her son, Josiah Horkavy, sister, Linda Rapacki and her mother-in-law, Jennie Horkavy. Mrs. Katie Horkavy was the office manager with her husband, Dr. Carl D. Horkavy at Healthsource of Benson Chiropractic Center.
Katie dedicated her life to Jesus in 1983 upon repenting of her sin and believing exclusively in His death, burial, and resurrection, thus receiving eternal life. This commitment to Jesus manifested in her service to the Lord within God’s local churches. For nearly 30 years she served faithfully at Catawba Springs Christian Church of Apex, NC in leading ladies’ Bible studies, teaching and mentoring youth, serving in children’s ministries, and displaying hospitality to countless missionaries and new friends she made everywhere she went (1992-2021). She and her husband aided in starting Berean Bible Church of McGee’s Crossroads (1999-2005; 2022). Her heart for church planting continued through her faithful support of her son’s church, Crossroad Baptist, in Litchfield Park, AZ where she served annually for nearly 10 years in their summer VBS. Katie’s daily devotions included faithful prayer for missionaries serving globally. Carl and Katie continue to support God’s work through His missionaries world-wide. Katie’s sincere faith in Jesus can be summarized in Jesus’ own words in John 11:25-26, “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. 26 And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?’” It would thrill Katie to know that her friends and loved ones would also believe Jesus’ promise to provide eternal life to all who repent and believe in His atoning sacrifice for their sin.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Carl D. Horkavy; sons, Ryan Horkavy and wife, Jennifer, and Tyler Horkavy and wife, Megan; grandchildren, Elizabeth Horkavy and Benjamin Horkavy; sister, Ronda Rushia, Janne Garcia, Bonnie Giaimo, and a brother, Robert Lanzoni, Jr.; many nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.
