Kay Evans Hill Fowler, age 64, died Sunday morning, August 6, 2023 in Rex Hospital. Born August 2, 1959, in Johnston County to the late Edwin Worth and Mary Elizabeth “Lib” Evans Hill, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Wyatt James Humpal. Kay worked for several years with First Citizens Bank in Smithfield. She and Pete moved away for many years with his job, but when they returned, Mr. Frank Holding himself asked her to come back to work at the bank. She was also a long-time member of the Sanders Chapel United Methodist Church on Brogden Road where she grew up on her family farm. Kay was a wonderful and caring woman, she didn’t know an enemy and would give anyone the shirt off her back. She loved her family very much and always did what she could to support and put them first. She will be missed by so many for her kindness and loving heart. Heaven has gained a true angel.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 12, 2023 in the Sanders Chapel United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Surviving are her husband, of 34 years, Pete Fowler; daughters, Mary Humpal and husband Brandon, Callie Brinson, Kayla Stephenson and husband Jacob all of Clayton; stepmother, Rose Hill of Smithfield; sisters, Beth Parker and husband Tim of New Bern, Amy Shea and husband Mark of Little River, SC and Gay Worrell and husband Jimmy of Winterville; brothers, Ronnie Wheeless and wife Christi of Huntsville, AL and Michael Wheeless of Raleigh; five grandchildren, Addison Kay, Cody, Jaxson, Rylie and Jaylen; eleven nieces, ten nephews and many great nieces and nephews.
