Kenneth R Hunichen, 68, a father of three, passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday, June 28, 2023 after a long battle with heart disease. The funeral service will be at McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton, NC on Sunday, July 2, 2023 at 2:00pm. The family will accept friends and family for visitation immediately thereafter. The burial will be at a later date at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh, NC.
Ken was born in Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland on September 15th, 1954. He graduated from Garner High School and continued on to receive a Bachelor in Industrial Engineering from Wesleyan College in Rocky Mt, NC.
Ken was devoted to the youth in the community and in the early 90’s he started Little League Baseball in Clayton, NC, so all kids had an equal opportunity to play baseball. Not only was he the Founder and President of the league, he spent many years coaching and working one on one with the kids. The league is currently still active in the Clayton community as of today.
He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Hunichen, his sisters, Susan Velazquez and Melody Faeizi, and his brother Howard Hunichen, his ex-wife of 25 years, Susan Flynn, his children Chris, Matthew & Kelly Hunichen, his grandchildren Derek Rodriguez, Bryson Hunichen and Tyler Hunichen, along with many other nieces & nephews.
Ken is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Hunichen Sr, his sister Venus Hunichen, & his Uncle George Hunichen. In lieu of giving flowers the family asks that those who are able instead make a donation to the memorial fund which can be sent to McLaurin Funeral Home.
