Laura Thorne Pollock

Laura Thorne Pollock, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at WakeMed Raleigh, surrounded by her family. Born July 25, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Onnie Lee Thorne and Annie Mae Woodard Thorne. In addition to her parents, Laura is preceded in death by her brothers, Charles Gordon Thorne, Ronnie Earl Thorne, and Thomas Irvin Thorne; and sisters, Shelby Thorne Greene and Elsie Jeanette Bizzell.

Laura worked at the OB Center as a QMRP Director in Goldsboro and for the Johnston County school system until her retirement. She was a guidance counselor at Smithfield-Selma Middle School and Selma Middle School. Laura was a member of River Oak Church of God (previously Selma Church of God) for 76 years, where she served in various roles, including Sunday School teacher and organist/pianist. She also served as Youth Leader and mentor. In her free time, Laura enjoyed ministering to the elderly and cooking for shut-ins.

The family will receive visitors at Parrish Funeral Home on Friday, October 9, 2026, from 1:00pm-2:00pm. A graveside service will follow the visitation on Friday at 2:15pm at Crocker Cemetery in Pine Level.

Laura is survived by her husband of 58 years, Eddie C Pollock; children, Earl Pollock (Wendy), Charles Pollock (Carmon), and Laura Lynn Mitchell; sister, Marietta Massey (Doug); grandchildren, Summer Barbee, Jonathan Mitchell, Thorne Pollock, Anna Pollock, Morgan Pollock, and Lauren Pollock; great-grandchildren, Layne Fisher Mitchell, Ky Sullivan, and Kimora Sullivan; special godson, Preston Thompson; and numerous loving and thoughtful nieces, nephews, and their spouses and children.
